Vertriebene syrische Frauen im arabischen Fernsehen

Global Space

Displaced Syrian Women in Arab Television

Global Space

How did the Arab television news construct the Syrian women’s experiences or struggles during the violent conflict in Syria, and how were they represented, framed and communicated in relationship to power, gender and social class? In her presentation, Rand El Zein shows what has been perpetuated and reproduced in the Arab television news and what has been left unreported and decontextualized from the socio-political circumstances different groups of Syrian women inhabit. She demonstrates how their experiences during the conflict were embodied in the news through the four main concepts: Violence, vulnerability, resilience, and resistance.

The Global Space talks promote exchange and integration in Salzburg. Speakers from Africa, Asia or Latin America who live in Salzburg design and present these talks. After the presentations there is the opportunity to informally share opinions and ideas.
